Overview

TourRangers presents one of the most rewarding entry points into high-altitude mountaineering in Pakistan — a full 6,050-metre summit that doesn't demand technical climbing experience. This is the Minglik Sar Expedition, reached through the legendary Shimshal Pass in the remotest corner of the Karakoram.
Minglik Sar (also spelled Manglik Sar or Mingling Sar) sits in the Shimshal Valley, at the southernmost edge of the Pamirs, in Gilgit-Baltistan. First climbed in 1988 by the famous Pakistani mountaineer Nazir Sabir, it's a non-technical snow peak with slopes of roughly 30–35°. From the summit, on a clear day, you can see mighty K2 (8,611m), Kanjut Sar, the Mustagh ranges, and the Pamir stretching into Central Asia. It's the ideal training ground for anyone ready to move from high-altitude trekking into real mountaineering.
Getting there is half the adventure. The route travels through Shimshal — the "Valley of Mountaineers" — home to the Wakhi people and the birthplace of climbers like Samina Baig, the first Pakistani woman to summit Everest. TourRangers has successfully summited Minglik Sar with aspiring mountaineers in 2021, 2022, and 2023, led by Expedition leader Shoaib alongside local Shimshali guides Arif and Nazir.
Good to know: reaching the pass averages 10–12 km of hiking a day and is graded moderate; the Minglik Sar summit is strenuous/extreme and for fit, determined climbers only. You can opt to join only as far as Shimshal Pass (the price is the same). Days are mild; nights are cold. Don't have gear? We can arrange it or guide you on where to buy it.

Frequently asked

Everything you might be wondering before you book — tap a question to expand.

Not advanced experience — Minglik Sar is a non-technical peak. But you should be a fit, experienced multi-day trekker, and basic familiarity with crampons and ropes is helpful. The real challenge is altitude, not technical climbing.

It's rated Strenuous/Extreme. Long trekking days, high altitude, cold weather, and a pre-dawn summit push make this the most demanding trip TourRangers runs.

Yes — you can join the group up to Shimshal Pass and skip the Minglik Sar summit. The price stays the same.

Minglik Sar (6,050 m) is a non-technical snow peak but a serious high-altitude undertaking — slopes of 30–35° and a 9–10 hour summit day with ~1,500 m of gain and loss. You'll need excellent physical and mental stamina; the necessary basic climbing skills are coached on the expedition.

Yes — foreigners with a valid tourist visa and paperwork are welcome. We provide visa assistance and an invitation letter.

Summit attempts always depend on conditions. The itinerary includes an acclimatization day and a contingency buffer, and your expedition leader makes the final safety call on the summit push.

Yes — on a clear day the summit panorama includes K2 (8,611m), along with Kanjut Sar, the Mustagh ranges, and the Pamir.

Your group is led by the most professional and experienced team at TourRangers. We specialise in arranging trekking tours and have successfully run multi-day treks and expeditions across the north — including the Churko Peak Winter Summit (4,300 m), K2 Base Camp Trek, Ratti Gali to Besal–Naran Trek, Chitta Katha Lake, Supat Valley Trek, Musa Ka Musalla, Makra Peak and the Ganga Choti winter summit, backpacking in Chitral, and a successful expedition to Shimshal Pass and Minglik Sar (6,050 m).

Went with Tour Rangers last year. The arrangements were brilliant. They were kind enough to keep us in the Basecamps for 3 consecutive days so that we can attenpt Minglik Sar when the weather gets clear. So the chances of summit was increased and we were able to summit. Also the high altitude porters were very experienced and kind and helped us every way. 100% recommended. It was my 8th tour with Tour Rangers and they never disappoint.
