Overview

Chukail Banda Meadows, nestled in the Mankial Valley of Swat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, offer a serene and less-travelled trekking experience. Sitting at roughly 3,000 metres (10,500 feet), these meadows are renowned for their lush green pastures, diverse wildlife, and panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.
The meadows lie within a designated national park and are home to endangered species such as the markhor, snow leopard, wolf, black bear, and the golden monal pheasant. The trail climbs from Kamar Khwa village through dense forests of deodar and pine, alongside glacial streams, before opening onto the expansive meadows — combining natural beauty, wildlife, and cultural richness for adventurers seeking an off-the-beaten-path escape.
Wildflowers bloom from May through July, and the high meadows are perfect for photography, birdwatching, and quiet, off-the-grid camping under the stars.
Starting Point: The journey typically begins from the town of Mankial, accessible via the N95 national highway. From Mankial, a challenging 8-kilometer off-road track leads to the village of Kamar Khwa. Due to the rugged terrain, only specially modified 4-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended for this segment.
Trekking Route: The trek from Kamar Khwa to Chukail Meadows takes approximately 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on fitness levels and weather conditions. The trail ascends through dense forests of deodar and pine, alongside glacial streams, before opening up to expansive meadows adorned with wildflowers between May and July.
Good to know: this is an easy-to-moderate trek with about 2–4 hours of walking depending on your pace, suitable for ages 10 and up. Days are pleasant but nights turn cold, so pack warm layers. As the meadows are within a protected national park, please carry out everything you bring in. Don't have trekking gear? We can arrange it or point you to where to rent or buy it.
