Overview

Few mountains in the world announce themselves the way Rakaposhi does. At 7,788 metres, this Karakoram giant — its name means "snow-covered" in the local tongue — rises so dramatically above Nagar Valley that you can see its shining wall of ice from the Karakoram Highway itself, and even from distant Hunza. The Rakaposhi Base Camp Trek takes you right to its feet
The trek follows a roughly 17 km out-and-back trail from Minapin village — moderately challenging, and famously uncrowded. From the green terraces of Minapin you climb through woods and grazing pastures to the open meadows of Hapakun and on to base camp at 3,500 m, perched beside the Minapin Glacier and face to face with Rakaposhi and Diran Peak (7,266 m).
A rest day lets you cross the Minapin Glacier toward Diran Peak Base Camp, with the option of a short hike to Kacheli Lake — and some of the clearest night skies you'll ever sleep under. It's an ideal first multi-day Himalayan trek for fit first-timers.
Ideal for backpacking, camping, and first-time high-altitude trekkers alike, the Rakaposhi Base Camp Trek is one of the most accessible ways to stand at the foot of a true Himalayan-scale giant. Departures are from Islamabad, with full camping, meals, guides, and satellite communications included.
