- Shimshal pass is the summer grazing pasture for the sheep, goats, and yaks of Shimshal Valley. Shimshal is a small valley located far north in Gojal tehsil of District Hunza in Gilgit Baltistan. Shimshal is known as the valley of climbers as it has produced more than twenty 8000m climbers. Shimshal Pass (4700m) is located in the high pasturelands of the mysterious Pamirs and it lies between South Asia and Central Asia. If you want to explore mother nature at its purest then Shimshal Pass is waiting for you.
The people of Shimshal are Wakhi and they speak the Wakhi language. Shimshal has produced several well-known mountaineers for Pakistan; among those Samina Baig is the first women climber from Pakistan to scale Mt. Everest and all the highest peaks in seven continents around the globe.
Manglik Sar is a Mountain Located at Shimshal Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The mountain, located in the Karakoram and southernmost part of the Pamir mountain ranges, is 6050meters high. It was 1st climbed in 1988 by the famous Pakistani Climber Nazir Sabir. It is a non-technical snow Peak. The slopes are rather steep, from 30 to 35 degrees. It is one day climb normally with 1500 meter ascent and 1500 meter descent from base camp. You may need to know some basic climbing techniques and also required good physical fitness. From the summit, you can see mighty K2, Yashkun garden 7400m Baraldu Valley, Mustagh Ranges, Pamir, and Kanjut Sar 7760m.
In July 2021, we have successfully summited Minglik Sar along with 8 aspiring mountaineers. The team was led by Team TourRanger Expedition Director Imran along with Arif and Nazir from Shimshal village.
Day 1 – Islamabad to Hunza” Departure from I-8 Markaz Islamabad at 12:00 AM for Chilas via Babusar Pass(if open) Breakfast at Balakot or Basham. Arrival Hunza at 5:30 PM, Overnight in Hunza
Day 2 – Hunza to Shimshal Village After breakfast, we will head out early towards Shimshal Valley on local 4×4 Jeeps. Short stay at Attabad Lake. Once we reach our destination, we will check in to our hotel and then have the rest of the day to explore the area.
Day 3 – Explore Shimshal Village After breakfast, we will head out early towards Shimshal Valley. Dinner and Overnight at Shimshal Village.
Day 4 – Shimshal Village to Pastfurzin We will start the day with breakfast and head out early on our first day of trekking. The trek to Pastfurzin will take approximately 7 to 8 hours after which we will set up camp and spend the rest of the day and night.
Day 5 – Pastfurzin to Peryeen Sar Breakfast at Camp, Trek to Peryeen Sar, 7-8 hours, first 1-hour steep climb and then descent to Woochfurzin, here are some huts and we continue decent towards the hard part of the way to Pamirthung, Here we cross the bridge Chgichan Bridge. Mr. Chichan donated to build this Bridge and it is called Chichen Bridge. After lunch 2 hours climb to Parinsar, from here we could see Maidur Valley, Chashkin Peak(6000m) Minglik Sar 6050m, further walk to Peryeen Sar. Dinner and Overnight in Camp.
Day 6 – Peryeen Sar to Shimshal Pass Breakfast at camp at Peryeen Sar, Trek to Shujarab,5-6 hours easy Trek, Shujarab is a summer settlement of Shimshalies and each year shepherds stay 3 to 4 months here with their cattle’s, sheep’s, goats, and Yaks. Trek to Shimshal Pass gets quite steep and strenuous from Shujarab and onward to Gulchinwask. We will reach lush green meadows a paradise for all adventure lovers, there are two beautiful lakes, lupwhooyee, and Zaklayee lake. We will establish our camp beside the lake.
Day 7 – Acclimatization and Rest Day We will spend the day resting and do acclimatization. Spend time at the Shimshal Pass. The area is famous for its lush green meadows and crystal clear lakes which make for a reward after having traveled all the way.
Day 8 – Minglik Sar (6050 meter) Summit Push We start at midnight almost 2:30 AM to climb Minglik Sar, It will take 9-10 hours to reach the summit and back. Please note that Manglik Sar is not demanding or technical mountaineering skills, You may need to know some basic climbing techniques that also required good physical fitness. From the summit, you can see Mighty K2 8611m.Yashkun Garden 7400m Baraldu Valley, Mustagh ranges, Pamir and Kanjut Sar 7765m. Back to base camp, overnight in Camp.
Day 9 – Shimshal Pass to Peryeen Sar After breakfast at camp trek down to Peryeen Sar, 7-8 hours easy walk, dinner and overnight in camp.
Day 10 – Peryeen Sar to Shimshal We will start the morning early as a long day of trekking awaits us. Making our way down towards Shimshal, we will hike approximately 7 to 8 hours.Garafternoon visit Shimshal Village, dinner, and overnight in Shimshal.
Day 11– Shimshal to Hunza We will start the day with breakfast and then get into jeeps to drive back to Hunza. Upon arrival, we will check in to our hotel and have the rest of the day to relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of the place. Hunza is arguably one of the most beautiful and frequently visited tourist destinations in the country.
Day 13 – Hunza to Islamabad After breakfast, we will start our journey back to Isb via KKH. It’s an long 14 to 16th hours drive. We shall reach Isb around 12 PM. Drop Participants

Day 14 – Reserve Day This is a reserve day in case of weather conditions we had to spend extra day on the trek.
